Indonesia Men's Football Team Beat Thailand's 2-0 in SEA Games 2019

Indonesia Football team win the first Group B Match against Thailand in SEA Games 2019.
Indonesia men's football team, coached by Indra Sjafri, won the first group stage match against the defending champion, Thailand, in SEA games 2019.

The match was played in Rizal Memorial Stadium Philippines and the kick-off started at 15:00 Western Indonesia Time, Teusday, 26th October 2019.

A quick goal by Egy Maulana Fikri in the 4th minutes give Indoesia an early lead. Evan Dimas delivered a cross from the corner then Bagas Adi Nugroho attempted to put the ball in the net. The Thailand's keeper Nont Muangngam was able to stop the effort but the ball was spilled and Egy was able to poke it in.

The Garuda squad was able to dominate the first half of the match but unable to convert more chances. Thailand pressed more aggressively in the second half but Indonesians' defender was able to ward off the attacks.

Indonesia created several chances through succession of quick counterattacks led by Asnawi Mangkualam Bahar. Finally, Osvaldo Haay was able to convert one of the chances into another goal in the 86th minute. Saddil Ramdani dribbled the ball quickly into Thai's penalty box and gave the ball to Osvaldo who flawlessly put it in the net.

Indonesia has never won gold in South East Asia Games. This team came close to win the biannually event in 2011 and 2013 after being knocked out in the final by Malaysia and Thailand, respectively.

Indonesia and Thailand belong to Group B along with Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, and Laos. Today's match result put Indonesia temporarily at the top of the group. Next, Indonesia will face Singapore on Thursday, 28th November 2019.
