Indonesia Increase Restriction for Areas Outside Java-Bali with Vaccine Coverage Less than 50%

The restriction to curb COVID-19 spread in area outside Java-Bali has been extended. More areas increased its level due

Indonesian government continues to enforce community activity restrictions (PPKM) level 1-3 outside Java-Bali. The policy is extended for 14 days, namely November 23 to December 6, 2021.

 "Specifically for outside Java-Bali, an extension from November 23 to December 6 for 2 weeks," said PPKM Coordinator for Outside Java-Bali, Airlangga Hartarto as quoted from Kompas ( 23/11/2021). 

Of the 27 provinces outside Java-Bali, none of the areas recorded assessment levels 3 and 4. In detail, 20 provinces are at level 2 and 7 Provinces at level 1. The area with lowest restriction includes Riau Islands, West Nusa Tenggara, North Sumatra, Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara, South Kalimantan, and Southeast Sulawesi.

In term of regency/city, there are only two districts that are at level 3, namely Teluk Bintuni (West Papua) and Rote Ndao (East Nusa Tenggara). Then, there are 200 regencies/cities at level 2 and 184 regencies/cities at level 1 restriction. 

However, Airlangga also explained that areas with vaccination coverage less than 50%, the restriction is increased by one level.  "So there are 109 regencies/cities at PPKM level 3, then 200 regencies/cities at level 2, and 77 regencies/cities at PPKM level 1," said the man who is also the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. 

Airlangga said that the Covid-19 situation in Indonesia continues to show improvement, including outside Java-Bali. This can be seen from active cases, recovery rates, and the number of patient deaths. 

"Outside Java-Bali, we see that there are 4,263 active cases or 52.46 percent of the national cases of 8,126. Then the death case is 3.12%, then the recovery is 96.57%," said Airlangga.

For area inside Java and Bali, the government had decided to extend the restriction until November 29, 2021. 

Meanwhile, the government is also planning to increase the restriction to the third level right before Christmas and New Year holidays.
