A British tourist identified as DAAH (50) has been arrested in Bali for allegedly stealing a truck, crashing into several vehicles, and ultimately breaching security at Ngurah Rai International Airport. The incident occurred on Sunday night, June 9, 2024.
The suspect reportedly stole the truck on Jalan Raya Kerobokan, Kelurahan Kerobokan, North Kuta, Badung Regency. He assaulted the driver, Rahmawan Andrianto (24), who was asleep in the passenger seat at the time.
"The suspect took the truck by opening the truck door and then hitting, grabbing, and kicking the driver who was sleeping on the left side, causing the victim to fall out," said I Putu Sukarma, Head of Public Relations for Badung Police, on Monday, June 10, 2024, as quoted by Kompas.
The event unfolded when Rahmawan parked his truck on Jalan Raya Kerobokan around 10:00 PM Central Indonesia Time on Sunday (9/6/2024) and fell asleep in the passenger seat.
Shortly thereafter, he was awakened by the sound of the truck's engine starting and found the suspect in the driver's seat. When Rahmawan tried to stop him, he was violently thrown out of the truck.
The victim attempted to get back into the truck, but the suspect immediately drove away with the vehicle.
A video published by Antara shows citizens attempting to chase the truck.
The suspect then drove the stolen truck towards Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, entering the toll road, crashing the toll gate, and heading back towards the airport, causing significant damage along the way.
